| Wayanad |
Wayanad is the boarder district of northern kerala located near to sahyadri hills. The unique geographical position of Wayanad at an altitude ranging from 700 to 2100 meters above sea level, has rendered the area with misty mountains, green valleys, and picturesque scenery. It is the lowest populated district in state. Wayanad, the green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala.
Pookkot lake :
It is about 13 kms from district head quarters, is undoubtedly the most beautiful tourist spot in Wayanad. The lake nestles in the lap of mountains surrounding it. Boating in pookkot lake is a memorable experience.tall trees and dence forests that line along the pathway around the lake provide a visual treet. A fresh water aquarium with a large variety of fish is an added advantage.
Muthanga wildlife sanctuary :
It is also called Wayanad sanctuary is agreat place to just relax and listen to uninterrupted sounds of nature. It is located between the states of Karnataka and tamilnadu, over an area of 344 sq. kilometers, famous for elephant site and rare birds species.
Soochippara waterfalls :
There is a waterfall, water falling from a height of 60 metre. The water goes in a narrow line through rocks and gorge join the river chaliyar which joins the Arabian sea.
Edakkal caves :
The world famous Neolithic edakkal cave is in Wayanad. It tells about the pre-historic cultural heritage of Wayanad. The cave was formed in the creavice of a broken rock, thatched by another massive rock. Carvings formed on the walls of this cave have drown the series attention of archaeologistics and historians all over the world.
Kuruva island :
The kuruva island with 950 acres of evergreen forest lies on one of the tributaries of river kabani. It is home to a variety of birds and butterflies, besides rare species of orchid, herbals, birds and butterflies can be seen here. This place is ideal spot for honeymoon tours . One full day is necessary for full trip.
Meenmutty waterfalls :
This is the biggest waterfall in Wayanad. One fall is from a height of 100 meters, apart from this main waterfall, there are two other falls from meenmutty you have to walk 1 km down to reach these water falls.
Sunrise valley :
It is the great place as the name suggests to watch sunrise and sunset in the back ground of mountains. The place also offers a beautiful view of the valley with a tributary of chaliyar river meandering along gracefully.
With the clearing of forests, the diverse and buzzling animal life, characteristic of the forests of Western Ghats, has vanished from Wayanad. One can still see the bonnet monkeys, loris, mongooses, jungle cats, squirrels, jackals, hares, etc, in the limited forest areas. The World's longest venomous snake, King Cobra is also found here.
